Tips for Project Leaders

Communicate with the agency contact to discuss project details and expectations.

Conduct a site visit to be familiar with the project location and facilities.

Recruit volunteers through: direct mail, e-mail, bulletin postings, word of mouth, etc.

Maintain a list of participants with work and home emergency numbers.

Organize the project and communicate necessary information to team members.

Become informed about the agency and its mission: share knowledge with team members.

Obtain necessary equipment--food, first aid, camera, signs, project equipment, supplies.

Assume the role of host at the project site, arriving early to welcome team members, noting attendance and taking care of last minute details.

Stay until the job responsibilities have been met and cleanup is completed.

Recognize Individuals: write "thank you" notes to appropriate agency personnel (contact person, executive director), individual team members, clients, and others as appropriate.
